Efficient Meteorological Communication
Nov 16 to Dec 11, 2020
Online course
Why enroll in the course?
Meteorology is already part of the main set of themes relevant to the public and occupies noble spaces in the media. In Europe and North America, weather reports have 1/3 the time of news programs and radio programs. Most of the media have Meteorological departments, or receive expert advice in the area. In South America, the dissemination of meteorological reports in the media is still under development and is being professionalized.
The “Efficient Meteorological Communication” course is an opportunity to learn how to use spaces of great economic and social value in the media, with the objective of generating quality weather information for the population and, therefore, adding value to professionals, institutions and companies Meteorology. Developing written and audiovisual communication skills will allow meteorology professionals to act in synergy, making dynamic, accurate and efficient communication; thus understanding the cycle of meteorological information.
In this sense, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has encouraged and approved the holding of courses like this, which ACMET invites all professionals in the field of meteorology and the like to take this course.
Course History
10 years ago, the Meteorology Course at the Federal University of Santa Maria (UFSM), Brazil, pioneered the discipline of Meteorology and Media. This course aims to meet the practices of Dissemination and Presentation of meteorological information proposed by the Guide to Public Weather Services of the World Meteorological Organization (Guide to Public Weather Services Practices, Second Edition World Meteorological Organization - No. 834).
This discipline trained dozens of research, weather and climate forecast professionals, able to communicate accurately and efficiently both with the general public and in the professional and academic environment.
UFSM's successful experience encouraged us to extend this course from the academic environment to professional spaces through the launch of the “Efficient Meteorological Communication Course” for the meteorological community.
